Powerday Business Support
A support contract on behalf of WRAP to assist Powerday, a leading company in the UK for the collection, sorting and processing of construction and demolition waste. Powerday is a resource and waste management company, providing a comprehensive range of responsible and cost-effective recycling services to meet the business and environmental needs of their customers.
Powerday recently created a state of the art waste facility at Old Oak Sidings, Willesden Junction. The facility is able to handle and process a wide variety of waste and has excellent transport links with opportunities to utilise road, rail or canal to transfer waste or product.
Initial work involved understanding the business, analysing waste stream inputs and identifying potential products and their potential markets. Overall business activities were reviewed and improvements made to processes and procedures, culminating in the development of a Quality Management System (QMS). A third phase concentrated on the development of testing methodologies and practices in order to begin to gather data relating to product quality.
The detail of the 3 phases of support are as follows:
Phase 1: Initial Investigation - this covered initial investigation and research in respect of the business operation, SWOT analysis and engagement with stakeholders.
Phase 2: Product Strategy & Quality Management System - this phase covered the identification of potential products and the development of a Product Strategy and also developed processes and procedures to form a Quality Management System.
Phase 3: Testing Methodologies and Practices - this final phase of support involved the development of testing methodologies and practices in order to begin to gather data relating to product quality. The practical aspect of visual aids to positive and negative component identification in the waste stream was also covered producing visual aids in the areas of:
- Metals;
- Wood and derivative products;
- Aggregates and contaminants.
