RED Scientific Ltd started life as the Defence Division of the software company R.E.D. Computing, based in New Malden. In 1990, the management team under Bob Privett, and aided by Yvonne Whiteley, achieved a buy-out of the division and RED Scientific Ltd (RED) was born. Originally based in Midhurst, West Sussex, RED moved to 1 Oriel Court, Alton in October 1998.
In 2000, following Bob’s sudden retirement due to ill-health, Yvonne acquired the business, becoming Managing Director of RED in April 2000. In 2006 Yvonne sold her other business interests to focus on RED full time and the RED Associate Model and Network were developed. We secured a number of Framework Contracts to provide Routes to Market and success quickly followed, with new customers in civil Government, Defence and EU Research.
The RED of today is growing quickly, with a renewed emphasis on in-house technical capability and the development of research / technical project teams. This has resulted in our opening a further office based in Knaresborough, North Yorkshire, in November 2015 and a Technical and Research Laboratory in Bentworth, Hampshire, in May 2016.
You can find out more about the key staff delivering our current growth on the RED Team page.
We continue to maintain a thriving Associate Network (The RED Network) that now includes UK Universities, other small organisations and about 900 active individual associates. Our procurement Framework holdings and coverage (The RED Frameworks) have become the envy of some of the largest UK defence prime organisations and produce the vast majority of our business opportunities.
If you wish to register as a RED Associate or join our network you can complete the forms in the working with RED section of the site.
This year sees a further strengthening of the in-house technical team, renewed focus on our core Operational Research (OR) offerings and our R&D interests expanding into autonomous systems, ‘wearables’ and sensors. You can find out more in the Capabilities section.
